A few days ago, a scientific article was published that marks the completion of a major phase of research work at EMAS. We have fully articulated the theses of the Theory of the Multi‑Level Nature (Multi‑Levelness) of the Business Model (EMAS Theory). Developed in Russia, this theory defines the role of the business model and business modeling within the organization’s strategic management system.
In practice, this means that there is now complete clarity on the sequence and content of strategic work – specifying when and what needs to be done to ensure a company develops an outstanding business model, well‑founded strategic goals, and an effective strategy.
The Theory is critically important because it provides the theoretical foundation for the previously developed Methodology of Business Modeling, Strategic Planning, and Strategic Management (EMAS Methodology). Together, they now constitute a unified scientific framework that has been extensively tested both in Russia and internationally.
The Theory and Methodology are the result of 20 years of scientific work. The journey began with practice – the development of the Methodology, which emerged from extensive hands‑on consulting experience. Key milestones:
2006: Publication of the first book.
2014: Publication of the second book.
2023: Publication of «The Next Level. Strategic Management of a New Era», which won the «Business Book of the Year in Russia – 2024» award. This book presents the current, third version of the Methodology.
Now, the Methodology is fully supported by the Theory, forming a cohesive whole.
Unique Advantages
Without exaggeration or self‑promotion, it is now clear that only Russian science today possesses a complete, unified framework of theoretical and methodological knowledge that enables Quantitative forecasting of the economic efficiency of potential business model variants with Comparative analysis against competitors using universally accepted economic indicators (e.g., sales volume, revenue, gross profit, sales margin, market and cluster shares, ROI, etc.).
This framework allows organizations, within the scope of strategic work, to:
* Select the optimal (superior) business model,
* Set analytically grounded strategic goals,
* Develop an effective strategy.
In contrast, Western science is limited to assessing prospective business models on a relative «better/worse» scale, without the capacity for quantitative forecasting.
Conclusion
The Russian Scientific School of Business Modeling, Strategic Planning, and Strategic Management has now been fully established.
The Theory and Methodology exemplify Russian scientific rigor – their research outcomes are not merely academic exercises but are commercially viable and serve as the foundation of EMAS’s business. This is not esoteric writing for the sake of publication; it is practical, impactful science. 😊
